Qubbo is born out of the traveling spirit and the passion for the outdoors. We love spending time in the wilderness and traveling in our van. We’ve always done that, it’s in our DNA.

We began travelling in an old family Volvo and later in a Volkswagen T3 Syncro. Life took us to Canada, where we traveled for over a year in an old ‘84 Ford Econoline motorhome, which we later sold and replaced with a minivan.

And the change to the van made us understand, again, that this was the best way to travel, to be able to do more, while planning less. To discover remote places that nature offers us, spots wich are often hard to reach with a larger vehicle.

But now, we needed a bed and a kitchen, so we started buiding it; with some recycled wood and a circular saw borrowed for two hours. And without realizing it, we had created our first Qubbo! It was magical!

What started out as a small workshop in a shed in the middle of nowhere, is still a small workshop in a shed in the middle of nowhere…. But now with doors! Yes, Qubbo is a micro-enterprise, that cares about its adventurous customers and does not pretend to be a mass production chain of camper furniture. It is important for us to be respectful and consistent with our philosophy of life.

We believe that the way these vehicles are used has evolved, and that we are increasingly using the same vehicle for commuting, leisure and travel. And therefore we have designed equipment that is flexible and allows us to maintain this balance, offering more with less.

We love our vans, and we have set ourselves the goal of creating the best product, thererfore it must be functional, durable and repairable. We are not satisfied with pre-existing solutions, thus we are constantly looking to evolve in order to find alternatives and better solutions.

We are part of this great family on wheels and we are lucky to be surrounded by likeminded friends, family and colleagues, and in this positive ambiance we are constantly growing. Are you going to join us?

Materials

Conditions in a van are far from ideal, high temperatures in summer, low temperatures in winter, humidity, the daily routine and the very movement and vibrations of the vehicle imply that the Qubbos are subjected to constant stress.

Therefore we have carefully chosen the materials for the construction of your equipment.

Elastic cable

We didn’t like the classic piano hinges that are usually used in folding beds. And because we are different, we set out to find a different solution.

And we found it in marine architecture. James Wharren is a naval designer, who is inspired by the Polynesian Tiki canoes in his designs. And in many of his catamarans, the rudder hinge system is replaced by rope-made hinges.

We concluded that if this could withstand the force of a rudder on a ship, it would certainly work on the hinges and other applications of our Qubbos.

So we started researching, and on that basis we developed our own system. After many trials, errors, modifications, different types of rope, more prototypes, and more tests, we found the right formula.

We started using the elastic cord on the hinges, and the result was just perfect.

And because we liked the material so much, we started using it in other applications as well. We love the versatility it offers us.

Wood

We offer a top quality product, that will last for many years. So, we use top quality phenolic plywood, and we do not use cheaper and heavier materials such as MDF and chipboard, which are not at all advisable for this type of use.
We build the Qubbo with a nine-layer phenolic plywood board with HPL laminate, a very stable and durable material that withstands the great variations in temperatures and humidity that occur in a vehicle.
For the base of our kits, we use anti skid film coated marine plywood, yes, the same material used on truck beds and festival stages, a guarantee of strength and durability!
The side table and the top of the drawer are made of three-layer laminated bamboo and finished with 3 layers of a natural food grade wax.

Our woods have the FSC and PEFC seals, which certify that they come from plantations with responsible and controlled forest management.

Mattresses

Our mattresses are made of HD foam with a density of 30kg/m3 , and are 8cm thick. The perfect formula for sleeping comfortably, whether on weekend getaways or long trips of several weeks. They can be optionally ordered with 5cm of foam and 3cm of viscoelastic foam.

The cover is made of high quality canvas, with a zipper, so you can remove it and wash it.

And a lots, lots of love. This is surely the ingredient that sets us apart the most. Every time we start designing a Qubbo, we put all our heart, knowledge and experience into it, so that the result is just spectacular.

Design, manufacture and construction

All our kits are computer designed, and then cut with the precision that CNC numerical control technolog offers. Each piece is then checked, and the edges are polished and beveled manually.

Our parts come out of the CNC machine with tenons and mortises, like a puzzle, so that in the assembly process all the parts are fitted together in a very precise, resistant and safe way.

Every Qubbo that comes out of the workshop is a one of a kind creation. They are assembled one by one,  with care, dedication and great attention to detail.

Frequently asked questions

How do I place an order?

You can fill out the contact form, or email us at qubbo.campers@gmail.com. You can also contact us via Instagram Direct Messages @qubbocampers if it’s easier for you!

My van is not on the list of supported vehicles

We are continuously expanding and improving our products. Your van or the perfect Qubbo that suits you may not appear in our catalog. Email us, and we’ll see what we can do for you!

What materials do you use?

We only use top quality materials. You can see them here (click).

Is it necessary to homologate the Qubbo?

Regulations vary from country to country. In Spain, they do not need approval nor do they need to be removed to pass inspections. They are considered as a load and are securely fastened by approved straps to the anchor points of your vehicle .

Do I need to modify the vehicle?

No, our products do not require any installation or modification to the vehicle.

Is it safe?

We take this aspect as a priority. We designed the Qubbos to meet all safety standards. One of these rules says that they must be set correctly. That’s why we include 3/4 approved belts, depending on the model, so that you can always tie it correctly to the anchor points in the trunk of your vehicle.

Are seats lost in the vehicle?

All bed models are compatible with the second row of passenger seats in the vehicle (the back of the seats needs to be lowered to make the bed), as well as the driver’s and passenger’s seat. If the vehicle has a third row of seats, it should be removed.

Are mattresses included?

Of couse! We want you to sleep well!
